About UsWhen Peter and Coba Herrmann set out to buy a farm in the mountainous Piketberg in 2003 they not only dreamt of developing a farm for future generations, but wanted a place where they could feel and experience the freedom nature has to offer.
As owners of Hertex Fabrics, South Africa's leading supplier of quality fabrics to the furniture and design industry, the Herrmanns take great pleasure in walking through the lush orchards of Bella Montaña and the flower plantations of Edelweiss – the two farms that offer them the opportunity to break away for fresh air and head space after the intensity of life in the city.
It is nature and the farm life style that attracted these entrepreneurs. Today they have built Bella Montaña to a supplier of a number of varieties to the local market and have plans in place for further development in citrus trees. They also export a large part of their food from Bella Montaña and proteas from Edelweiss into African and other international markets where they see the future for the South African products. "We have built a packing shed to ensure control over the quality and size of our products," says Peter, who takes great pride in the contribution they are able to make to sustain the quality of South African food and flower produce.
More about Bella MontañaIn 1810 there were two farms on the Piketberg mountain, of which the farm Tweefontein was one. In 1870 the farm was 2598 hectares in size when four sons of a widow with the surname Lucas inherited it. Later on Tweefontein was divided into various garden farms of which Weltevrede (now Bella Montaña) was one. It now is a farm of 60 ha. In 2005 the Herrmann family changed the name to Bella Montaña.
More about EdelweissEdelweiss, situated next to Bella Montaña, is the latest acquisition made by the Herrmanns where a variete of proteas are found. The farm provides for the South African and export market. This is a 250 ha farm. The intention is to extensively develop the farm and its proteas, unique to this area.
Easy peelers citrus fruit has been planted for export to the European market. Over time we will fully integrate Bella Montaña and Edelweiss.
